Hopeful Conversation with a french immigrant

Day 12: A Hopeful Conversation with a French Immigrant

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  John 14:27

In France, it’s estimated that around 15,000 Muslims leave Islam each year. Interestingly, roughly the same number of people convert to Islam, so the overall population balance remains steady. But beneath the surface, a quiet movement is growing—an increasing community of ex-Muslims who are searching for truth and meaning beyond their former faith.

For many, leaving Islam is not an easy choice. Even in a Western nation like France, it can mean being rejected by family and friends—or facing hostility and threats. Yet, those who courageously walk this path often become catalysts for deeper conversations about faith, prompting others to question and explore for themselves.

This spiritual ripple doesn’t stop at France’s borders. As ex-Muslims share their journeys online or with family back home, their stories reach places like Algeria and Morocco, where Islam is deeply ingrained in daily life. In these nations, where questioning faith can be dangerous, their testimonies shine as unexpected lights of hope.

*Farad’s story is one of those lights.

He moved from Algeria to France as a child. Most of his friends came from Muslim families like his, but as Farid grew older, his interest in religious practice faded. He preferred spending time with non-religious friends—except for *Sami.

Sami, also of Algerian heritage, was different. He spoke about God in a way Farad had never heard before—personal, loving, and full of grace. Curious, Farad asked him why. Sami shared how he had been given a book about Isa al-Masih (Jesus) and how the words of Jesus had transformed his life. He told Farad about a small group of Isa’s followers who gathered to study His teachings and encourage one another in faith.

Intrigued, Farad agreed to go. It was a simple invitation—but one that could change everything.

HOW WE CAN PRAY

  • Encounters with the gospel: Pray that Muslim immigrants in France would encounter Jesus through relationships, Scripture, and dreams—and that their hearts would be softened to His truth and love.
  • Courage for seekers and new believers: Ask God to strengthen those like Farad who are exploring faith in Jesus, giving them wisdom, courage, and protection as they navigate potential rejection from family or community.
  • Authentic friendships with Christians: Pray for French believers to build genuine, respectful friendships with Muslim immigrants—reflecting Christ’s compassion and creating space for meaningful conversations about faith.
  • Healing and hope in a secular culture: Many immigrants feel isolated or disillusioned in France’s secular environment. Pray that they would find identity, belonging, and purpose in Christ, who welcomes people from all nations.
  • Ripple effect beyond France: Pray that as Muslim-background believers grow in faith, their testimonies would reach families and friends in their home countries—spreading the light of Jesus across North Africa and beyond.
