A Quiet Revolution of Faith in Iran
Day 14: A Quiet Revolution of Faith in Iran
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. – Ephesians 2:8
When *Leila heard the news that Iran’s Supreme Court had ruled it was not a crime to preach Christianity in a house church, her heart leapt with joy. Could this really be happening? For years, every believer she knew had lived under the constant threat of arrest simply for meeting together.
Leila’s own journey to faith began in secret. Late at night, she would tune in to Christian satellite programs, curious about the Jesus they spoke of. Eventually, His words captured her heart. Yet ever since that moment, she has been careful—keeping her faith hidden from most, afraid to share openly, even with friendly strangers.
Her small house church in a nearby town became her lifeline—the only place she could worship and pray with others who understood. Some of those very friends are still imprisoned for their faith. So when the court’s decision came, hope flickered. Maybe, just maybe, things were beginning to change.
Iran remains an Islamic republic, where evangelizing Muslims has long been punishable by imprisonment—or worse. But in late 2021, a groundbreaking court ruling declared that preaching Christianity is not, in itself, illegal. The law is inconsistently applied, yet this represents a monumental shift in a nation once known for its harsh persecution of religious minorities.
Ironically, as the government has sought to enforce stricter Islamic control, many Iranians have grown disillusioned, associating Islam with political corruption and oppression. Secular surveys now confirm what Christian workers have observed for years—the Church in Iran is one of the fastest-growing in the world.
Today, estimates suggest there are at least half a million believers in Iran—and likely far more. Most still meet quietly in homes, whispering prayers behind closed doors. But even in secrecy, the light of Christ continues to spread, quietly transforming hearts and homes across the nation.

HOW WE CAN PRAY
- Pray for seekers: Ask God to meet those who are questioning Islam or searching for deeper meaning. Pray that dreams, visions, and Christian media would lead many to encounter Jesus personally.
- Pray for secret believers: Many follow Jesus in silence, fearing exposure. Pray for their courage, wisdom, and opportunities to safely gather for worship, discipleship, and encouragement.
- Pray for those in prison: Lift up pastors, evangelists, and ordinary believers who are imprisoned for their faith. Pray for strength and peace, and that their testimonies would shine brightly even behind bars.
- Pray for spiritual revival among Muslims: Ask God to continue softening hearts across Iran, turning disillusionment with Islam into an openness to the gospel and a deep hunger for truth.
- Pray for protection and growth of the underground Church: Pray that house churches would remain hidden from authorities, yet visible to seekers. Ask the Holy Spirit to multiply leaders, strengthen new believers, and bring unity among Iran’s growing Christian community.
