The Hindu Diaspora

Welcome to the 2025 Edition of 15 Days of Prayer for Hindu Peoples

The Hindu Diaspora is Vast and Deeply Rooted

The word diaspora comes from two ancient Greek words, dia (“through” or “across”) and speiro (“to scatter” or “to sow”), originally used to describe the spread of Greeks across the ancient world.

Today, diaspora refers to any people group—ethnic, cultural, or religious—that has migrated and settled outside its ancestral homeland.

The Hindu Diaspora is vast, diverse, and deeply rooted across the globe. While we cannot cover every facet of this wide-ranging movement in just 15 days, this guide aims to offer a glimpse into the key waves of migration and highlight strategic areas where Hindu communities have taken root.

We’ll begin by briefly acknowledging the Ancient Hindu Diaspora in Southeast Asia, which dates back to the time of Christ.

Then we’ll explore the Old Hindu Diaspora, which spread primarily during the 19th century through indentured labor systems.

Finally, we’ll turn our attention to the New Hindu Diaspora, which began after the independence of South Asian nations in 1947 and continues today through global mobility and opportunity.

As we step into these days of intentional prayer, we do so with faith that God is near to every Hindu person, no matter how far they are from their ancestral home. Our hope for this guide is that it will stir hearts, deepen compassion, and inspire many to intercede with hope and faith on behalf of Hindu communities around the world.

There are parts of our calling, works of the Holy Spirit, and defeats of the darkness that will come no other way than through furious,  fervent, faith-filled, unceasing prayer. – Beth Moore

Hindus are the second-largest unreached religious group in the world. History has shown that prayer paves the way for the spread of the Good News of Jesus.

Although the global church sends out many cross-cultural workers, less than two percent focus on Hindus—leaving millions still without meaningful access to the gospel.

Pray that Hindus would experience God’s blessing, that their lives would be fruitful, and that every Hindu would have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We invite you to take time to read the Scriptures, ask the Holy Spirit to guide your prayers and reveal His heart for Hindu peoples.
