Unshakeable Faith in Libya
Day 18: An Unshakeable Faith in Libya
… the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. – Isaiah 61:1
Libya—a land of breathtaking deserts and vast oil wealth—has been scarred by years of civil war. Rival militias, political chaos, and economic collapse have caused many to flee, leaving behind those who have no choice but to survive in a fractured and fragile nation.
But beyond the physical ruin lies a deeper struggle—a spiritual one. In Libya, to follow Christ is to risk everything. Conversion from Islam is not just forbidden; it can cost you your life.
*Asif knows that cost all too well.
Years ago, while searching for truth, Asif found a Bible and began to read it. The words stirred something deep within him—a longing for the peace and forgiveness he had never known. Asif chose to follow Jesus, but fear and pressure from those around him caused him to drift away.
Then one day, God reached out to him again—this time through a believer from sub-Saharan Africa who crossed his path. Seeing Asif’s struggle, the man prayed simply and earnestly: “Lord, reveal Yourself to him.”
A few days later, Asif saw a vision of the risen Christ. The experience changed everything. From that moment, he could not deny the One who had found him twice. He began boldly sharing his faith—and soon faced the consequences.
Today, Asif sits behind prison walls under a disputed death sentence. Yet even there, the light of Christ shines through him. Like Joseph in the book of Genesis, his humility and integrity have won the respect of prison authorities. He works diligently, helps others, and continues to speak of the hope he has found in Jesus.
In a place marked by despair, Asif’s faith is a quiet but unshakable testimony that no prison, no law, and no sentence can silence the power of the risen Christ.

HOW WE CAN PRAY
- Pray for seekers: Ask God to reveal Himself through dreams, visions, and the witness of believers, so that many Muslims in Libya will come to know the truth and peace found only in Jesus.
- Pray for courage and protection: Following Jesus in Libya can mean imprisonment, as in Asif’s case, or death. Pray for believers to stand firm in their faith, and for God’s supernatural protection over their lives, families, and gatherings.
- Pray for unity and strength among believers: Many followers of Jesus live in isolation and fear. Pray that small house fellowships and secret believers will find safe ways to gather, encourage one another and grow together in faith.
- Pray for authorities and communities: Ask the Lord to work in the hearts of local leaders and guards. Ask Him to soften the hearts of leaders and government officials, that they might show mercy and be touched by the testimony of believers like Asif.
