Around 1.5 million Pattani Malay people live in Thailand near the Thai-Malaysia border; fewer than 0.01% have ever heard about Jesus. As a minority religion in Thailand, their faith is deeply woven into daily life—often even more devout than that of Muslims in majority-Muslim countries across Southeast Asia. This strong cultural and religious identity can make it especially difficult for Pattani people to explore other beliefs.

*Zara first encountered Jesus while working as a translator for a Christian group. As she learned about Him, she discovered a peace she had never known. Prayer in Jesus’ name began to transform her life, healing broken relationships and softening a heart that had been shaped by her culture. In her community, seeking revenge against those who wrong you is common—but when her colleagues spoke harshly about her, Zara chose a different path. She forgave them, filled with joy and serenity that surprised even herself.

Though Zara has been cautious about sharing her faith with her husband, she nurtures her belief quietly at home. She prays with their two sons and takes them to secret gatherings of believers, seeking to root them in God’s love. Encouraged by Scripture and fellow believers, Zara now prays for a home where Jesus is at the center of their family—guiding their hearts, shaping their choices, and filling their lives with His peace.

HOW WE CAN PRAY

• Open hearts to truth: Pray that God would soften hearts and prepare Pattani Muslims to hear and understand the message of Jesus, even in a context where hearing about Him is rare.
• Peace and reconciliation: Pray for a spirit of forgiveness to overcome cycles of revenge and conflict within communities, and that God’s peace would transform relationships.
• Protection and guidance for believers: Pray for safety, courage, and wisdom for the small number of secret believers among the Pattani, and for them to be bold yet wise in living out their faith.
• Family and generational impact: Pray that families like Zara’s would experience God’s love, and that children and spouses would be drawn to Christ through His transforming presence.
• Cultural and community transformation: Pray that God would raise up local voices and ways to share the gospel that respect the Pattani culture while pointing people to Jesus, bringing lasting spiritual and social transformation.
