night of destiny

Day 30: Night of Power/Destiny

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye. shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Matthew 7:7

“Laylat al Qadr,” the Night of Power, marks the moment Muslims believe the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to the prophet Muhammad. It is one of the holiest nights of the entire year—a night so significant that even those normally less devout often seek God with renewed intensity. Many believe that a single act of worship on this night carries more weight than a thousand months of ordinary devotion.

It is also called the Night of Destiny, a time when many Muslims feel that the course of their coming year is set. Because of this, countless men and women fill the night with prayers for forgiveness, mercy, and blessing. Some stay awake until dawn; others spend the last ten days of Ramadan living in the mosque so they won’t miss this sacred window.

As Ramadan draws to its close, most Muslims increase their prayers, recite more of the Qur’an, and seek to repair relationships—asking forgiveness, offering forgiveness, and making things right with others.

It is a night filled with longing—an expectant watching for God to reveal Himself. Let’s pray that He does.

HOW CAN WE PRAY DURING THE NIGHT OF POWER

  • Pray for genuine encounters with God: Ask that as Muslims seek revelation, God would reveal Himself through dreams, visions, Scripture, and unexpected moments of clarity.
  • Pray for a deeper hunger for truth: Many spend the night searching for forgiveness and favor—pray that their spiritual longing leads them to the Savior who hears and responds.
  • Pray for peace over fear and uncertainty: Since many believe their destiny for the coming year is determined on this night, pray that God replaces anxiety with His peace and draws hearts toward trust in Him.
  • Pray for softened hearts and reconciled relationships: Lift up families and communities attempting to forgive, seek forgiveness, and make amends. Pray that God works healing and restoration where it is desperately needed.
  • Pray for believers who intercede during this time: Ask God to strengthen Christians who pray for their Muslim neighbors, giving them compassion, boldness, and opportunities to share with sensitivity the hope that is found in Christ alone.
