Day 21: A Miracle in a Syrian Refugee Camp

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.1 Peter 2:24

Maymuna, the youngest of seven children, grew up in hardship. After her father’s sudden death in an accident, her family lost everything. With nowhere else to go, her mother, Safiya, gathered her little ones—all under the age of ten—and took refuge in a small, makeshift hut in a camp in northern Syria.

Life in the camp was already a daily struggle when tragedy struck again. Maymuna fell ill, and in desperation, Safiya took her from doctor to doctor, hoping someone could help. But one day, a terrible mistake changed everything—a doctor gave Maymuna the wrong medicine. Within days, she was blind.

“The damage can’t be undone,” the doctors told her. “Your daughter will never see again.”

Safiya’s heart broke. She felt hopeless, angry, and utterly alone—until one day, a small group of Christians serving among the refugees stopped to listen to her story. With compassion in their eyes, they offered to pray for Maymuna. Though hesitant, Safiya agreed.

As they prayed, something extraordinary happened. Maymuna began to move her eyes—and suddenly, she could see again! Tears streamed down her face, the first she’d cried since losing her sight.

Everyone present was stunned. Joy erupted in the camp as Safiya lifted her hands in praise.

“The doctors told us nothing could be done,” she said, her voice trembling. “But Jesus has completely healed my daughter. Glory to God!”

HOW WE CAN PRAY

  • Pray for healing and hope: Many refugees carry deep emotional and physical wounds from war, loss, and displacement. Ask God to bring comfort, healing, and renewed hope to hearts broken by trauma and uncertainty.
  • Pray for provision and protection: Lift up families living in camps and unstable regions. Pray for shelter, food, clean water, education for children, and safety from violence and exploitation.
  • Pray for open hearts to the gospel: Ask that God would reveal His love through dreams, Scriptures, and the kindness of believers serving among them. Pray that refugees would encounter Jesus as their true refuge and source of peace.
  • Pray for the local church and Christian workers: Pray for strength, wisdom, and protection for those ministering among refugees—local believers, aid workers, and missionaries—so they can share Christ’s compassion boldly and wisely.
  • Pray for restoration and rebuilding: Ask God to make a way for the rebuilding of lives, families, and communities. Pray that entire refugee communities would experience transformation and become testimonies of God’s faithfulness.
