Gospel comes  to Azerbaijan

Day 8: Social Media Brings the Gospel to Azerbaijan

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!  Isaiah 52:7

*Frank, a staff member serving in the Caucasus, wrote, “In early 2021, I shared our first social media posts with our partners in Azerbaijan. That simple step inspired them to create their own videos—boldly proclaiming that they follow Jesus,”

The Caucasus, a region nestled between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and southern Russia. It’s a land of breathtaking beauty and deep complexity—diverse in culture and history, yet spiritually divided. The southern part of the region is almost entirely Muslim.

When political restrictions prevented Frank from traveling to the Caucasus, he found another way to reach people. From his home in the West, this gifted evangelist began connecting with Muslims online. Through creative media and short videos in the Azeri language, Frank shared stories of hope, faith, and Jesus.

In just nine months, hundreds of thousands had viewed his posts. “Hundreds have received a New Testament in Azeri, and several dozen people have joined follow-up courses,” Frank reports. “Local staff are personally delivering Bible portions and praying for seekers—despite serious security risks.”

The fruit has been remarkable. “A brother in Azerbaijan told me new people come to their house group every week,” Frank shared. “Another said he gets so many calls from people asking for New Testaments for their friends that he can hardly keep up.”

Even in Nakhichevan—a small, isolated republic that has remained almost untouched by the gospel since 1989—people are now requesting God’s Word.

What began as a few simple social media posts has become a ripple effect of faith across the Caucasus—proof that God’s message of hope can travel where people cannot.

HOW WE CAN PRAY

  • Pray for hearts open to the gospel: Ask God to soften hearts and remove fear or prejudice so that many Muslims in the Caucasus would be willing to explore who Jesus truly is.
  • Pray for boldness and protection for local believers: Many who follow Christ face social pressure and government scrutiny. Pray that they would stand firm in faith, filled with courage and wisdom as they share the good news.
  • Pray for digital outreach to bear lasting fruit: Social media has opened doors that physical borders have closed. Pray that every post, video, and message shared online would connect seekers to genuine relationships and discipleship.
Pray for the unreached areas—especially Nakhichevan: Lift up regions that have remained untouched by the gospel for decades. Ask God to raise up workers, open channels for Scripture distribution, and prepare hearts to receive His Word.
  • Pray for unity and strength among ministry partners: Believers and workers across Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and southern Russia need encouragement and cooperation. Pray that they would be united in love, prayer, and purpose as they reach their Muslim neighbors.
