Healing of an Afghan Refugee
Day 6: Healing of an Afghan Refugee in Switzerland
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
The largest number of asylum applications in Switzerland come from Afghans. Among them is *Farzhad, a man in his fifties who arrived in the country a few years ago.
Last summer, Farzhad was in a bicycle accident that severely injured his right shoulder. The first doctor he visited advised him to simply apply ointment, but the pain persisted. Soon, Farzhad could no longer tend to his beloved garden or continue his other passion—sewing blankets for refugee children. After three months, he was finally referred to a specialist. The diagnosis revealed that his shoulder had been broken and had healed incorrectly. Physiotherapy was prescribed, but progress was painfully slow.
During this time, a Swiss Christian friend felt led to pray for him. She gently asked, “Farzhad, you know I pray to Jesus. May I pray for you?” Farzhad agreed, and she prayed for healing in the name of Jesus.
A few days later, Farzhad returned to visit her—his face full of joy. “Sister,” he exclaimed, “Two doctors recommended treatments that didn’t help. But you prayed once, and the pain left!”
Rejoicing, his friend responded, “That wasn’t me, Farzhad! Praise be to Jesus, who answered our prayer!”
