But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the Word and understands it. Matthew 13:23
Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in southwest China, has a population of 16.5 million and boasts a rich history that spans over 3,000 years.
As the birthplace of the ancient Shu civilization, it has long been a cultural and economic hub. Renowned as the “Land of Abundance” for its fertile plains and irrigation systems, including the Dujiangyan irrigation system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chengdu has been a center for agriculture and trade since ancient times.
Chengdu’s culture is unique, different from other Chinese cities. It is famous for its laid-back lifestyle and is globally recognized for its vibrant food culture – especially Sichuan cuisine, which is known for its bold, spicy flavors and iconic dishes like hotpot, mapo tofu, and kung pao chicken.
Over the past few decades, Chengdu has evolved into a major center for technology, innovation, and finance, with significant investments from both domestic and international companies. More than 300 Fortune 500 companies have established branches in Chengdu.
The majority of Chengdu’s population is Han Chinese, but the city is also home to 54 ethnic minority groups, accounting for approximately 18% of its residents. Its blend of historical significance and contemporary development makes Chengdu one of China’s most popular cities to visit and live in.
Buddhism is the dominant religion, with Confucianism also playing a role in the cultural landscape. Christianity has a very small presence in the region.
